Morse Code Translator & Trainer
Type text or dots and dashes, hear it, watch it, and learn to copy it by ear.
The Morse tree
Every letter is a path: go left for a dot, right for a dash. Click a letter to hear it; while text plays, its path lights up.
Koch method trainer
Learn by ear at full speed: start with two characters and add one each time you copy 90% correctly. Lesson of 41. ยท
Tip: keep the character speed at 15โ20 WPM even as a beginner and slow the overall speed with Farnsworth spacing instead. Learning sounds, not counting dots, is what makes copying fast.
Morse code chart
Click any character to hear it. Prosigns (with a line over them) are sent as one run without gaps.
About this tool
Timing
A dot is one unit, a dash three, the gap inside a character one, between characters three and between words seven. At w words per minute one unit lasts 1.2 รท w seconds (60 ms at 20 WPM), using the standard word PARIS. Farnsworth timing keeps characters at the full speed but stretches the gaps between them.
Do I need Morse for a licence?
No. The FCC dropped the Morse requirement in 2007, but CW is still one of the most effective modes on the air: it gets through when voice can't. Practise for your written exam with the ham licence practice exam.
