About this tool

Licence classes

New US licences are Technician, General and Amateur Extra. Advanced (and Novice) licences are no longer issued but remain valid and renewable, so they're shown too.

Phone and data segments

On HF, the lower part of each band is for CW and data (RTTY, FT8, PSK31โ€ฆ) and the upper part adds phone and image modes. CW is allowed everywhere in a band you're licensed for.

Stay inside the edges

Your whole signal must stay inside the segment, not just your dial frequency: on lower sideband, don't set the dial closer than about 3 kHz to the bottom edge of a phone segment.
