About this tool
What is APRS?
The Automatic Packet Reporting System lets hams send positions, weather readings and short messages over radio (144.390 MHz in North America, 144.800 MHz in Europe). Digipeaters and internet gateways (iGates) pass the packets to the APRS-IS network, which is where aprs.fi collects them.
Callsigns and SSIDs
One operator often runs several stations with different suffixes: -9 is usually a car, -7 a handheld, -13 a weather station, -10 an iGate. Enter the full callsign with its SSID. Objects (like nets or events) can be looked up by name too.
Why can't I see a station?
The map shows the last position a station sent. If it hasn't beaconed recently, or only sends messages, it won't appear. Stations that haven't been heard for a while are dimmed.
Privacy
APRS positions are public by design: anyone can receive them on the air. This page only looks up the callsigns you type.
